Cleaner Production Unit (CPU) celebrated the 3rd Anniversary, held the 2nd Arab CP Workshop, and announced the results of the CP Recognition Scheme


On the 28th of August 2007, the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) represented by the Cleaner Production Unit marked the 3rd Anniversary of the Cleaner Production (CP) Unit. The celebration was in parallel to the Second Arab Regional workshop (3-day workshop).



The workshop was undertaken in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences NorthWestern Switzerland (FHNW) and Sustainable Business Associates (SBA) with the support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco).

The Workshop aimed at sharing experience regarding CP and related issues, fostering a CP network of collaboration among Arab Countries, enabling regional benchmarking, presenting and discussing future trends and CP related topics.


On the 30th of August, Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, the CP unit of the Royal Scientific Society was honored to celebrate the 1st Jordanian CP Recognition Award. This Award aims mainly at distinguishing the participating industries implementing CP and at strengthening the promotion of CP concept among different sectors in the country.



Three companies were awarded: Al Keena Hygenic paper Mill Co. (The First Place), Arab Aluminium Industry Co. Ltd "ARAL" (The Second place) and Jordan Sipes Paints Co. (The Third Place).


Based on the positive results and the successful execution of CP Phase I, an agreement was signed between RSS and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco) for launching of CP Phase II project. The new phase will focus on new CP related activities such as the Environmental Risk Assessment and Life Cycle Analysis in addition to continuing in the classical CP services.
