Training workshop on Risk Assessment 15-19 July 2007

Under the Patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya Bint El Hassan and H.E. Mr. Paul Widmer, the Swiss Ambassador to Amman, a specialized training workshop on risk assessment was held at the Cleaner Production Unit of the Royal Scientific Society.

The workshop was undertaken by Dr. Pablo Lerena, an experienced risk analysis moderator, who has performed several safety studies and reports related to the risk assessment of major accidents in Switzerland, Spain and France. The workshop was based on a one day Seminar on risk assessment (15 July, 2007) and had the objective of transferring the theoretical knowledge about process risk analysis and the assessment of the risk of major accidents including the identification of scenarios, modelling of dispersion and consequence assessment. In the second part (16-19 July, 2007) the theory was practically applied on the case of the unhydride ammonia-storage tanks at Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) in Aqaba.

Among the participants were relevant stakeholders from the private and public sector in Jordan, in addition to other participants from Syria.
