Year Three CP Program

The Cleaner Production (CP) project at the Royal Scientific Society has focused in the first two years on the industrial sector which included (food, metal, chemical and dairy industries). The third year of the CP program will focus on Jordan’s tourism sector and the large chemical industries in addition to working on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

According to the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the tourism sector constitutes the country’s largest export sector. It is estimated that the tourism sector contributes more than US$ 800 million to the Jordanian economy and accounts for approximately 10 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

In order to support the third year program and contribute to the capacity building of CP techniques in hotel management, the CP Unit and the Swiss Reference Center (SRC) have taken the initiative of organising a study tour in Switzerland for Jordanian technicians and executives in the hospitality sector in March 2007. This tour will focus on a mix of medium to high level Hotels aiming mainly at introducing and raising awareness of current CP techniques in hotel management, promoting the adoption of CP practices and encouraging the embracement of technological advancement in Jordan.
